Regular practice of Laughter Yoga has taught me how to forgive myself when I make mistakes.
It’s assisting me on my journey as a recovering Perfectionist to accept when things
don’t work out as planned.
As a small business owner, wife and busy mother of two teenagers, I aim to be efficient with my time.
One day, after a productive day in my home office, I stopped into my local grocery store before school pick up.
I scooted up and down the aisles filling my trolley with items from my shopping list.
Upon returning home to a tight schedule of preparing an early dinner before taking my daughter to basketball training, I unpacked the groceries into the fridge and pantry.
It was then that I discovered I had forgotten the first item on my shopping list – the milk!
How do you respond to disappointment?
I had a choice about how I reacted to this scenario.
The instinctive voice started to speak the loudest:
“Oh how stupid of you! How could you forget the milk?”
In the past, this voice would have led me down a path of self loathing and frustration.
Instead I stopped, took a deep breath and laughed out loud to release my tension.
I decided it was important to go back to the shop to get the milk because my son needed it to make his smoothie in the morning.
Back at the grocery store I was greeted with a smile from the checkout man who said “You’re back again?”
To which I replied with a laugh “Yes I forgot the milk”.
